It Is Never Too Late to Start: Rebecca’s Martial Arts Journey at 47

At 47, Rebecca Waterhouse was preparing to represent England at the World Championships in Austria. Just over two years earlier, she had never tried any form of martial arts.

Her story is a reminder that an adult’s first class can be the beginning of something they had never expected.

A Martial Arts Journey at 47

Rebecca’s journey did not begin with years of childhood training. She came to KRMA as an adult with no previous martial arts experience. By the time her story was shared on 21 August 2026, training had become a positive part of her life.

From a Mother’s Day Class to Regular Training

Her first step was attending a Mother’s Day class at KRMA. She then joined the Couch to Red Belt course and continued her training.

That first visit became the starting point for an ongoing connection with the school. Rebecca valued being part of the KRMA family, including the friendships and support around her.

Stepping Into Competition

Rebecca went on to compete at the English Championships and the North Lincolnshire Open. At the time of the original story, she had achieved one gold, two silver and one bronze.

These results marked a considerable change from arriving without any martial arts experience just over two years earlier.

Preparing to Represent England

In August 2026, Rebecca was looking ahead to representing England at the World Championships in Austria. Her story captures that moment of preparation; it does not assume the results that would follow.

You Are Not Too Late to Start

Rebecca’s experience offers encouragement to adults who wonder whether they have left it too late to begin. Competition does not have to be everyone’s goal, and each person’s journey will be different.

For Rebecca, a Mother’s Day class led to regular training, friendships and an opportunity to represent her country. The first step was simply trying a class.
